Golf in the Highlands
We know that many golfers will want to construct their own tour of some of the scenic areas of Scotland.
There is an enormous range of courses, from championship tracks like Royal Dornoch to very small venues tucked in glens and behind lochs such as Lochcarron or Ullapool. Almost all of them have huge character and you can be guaranteed the warmest of welcomes from the members who keep them alive.
Two essential books for the task are Robin Down’s Golf in the Wild golfinthewild.org.uk and Derek McAdam’s The Nine Holer Guide - and not just because Traigh features on the cover of both of them!Another two wonderful and emotional books built around tours of Scottish golf courses which include visits to Traigh are Jim Hartsell's When Revelation Comes and Michael Konik’s In Search of Burningbush (though it was a pity the weather was so wet when the latter reached Traigh). A similar and beautifully written description of playing the links of Scotland is Tom Coyne's A Course Called Scotland.
David Shaw Stewart (one of our co-owners) has also written and illustrated Views from the Tee. All proceeds from sales of the book go to the course (see Updates), and www.viewsfromthetee.com.
